The concept of black-tie boxing as a fund-raising event was developed in Dallas, Texas in 1989. The event was sponsored and presented by a real estate trade group as a means of generating revenue for the operational expenses of the chapter office. The event was a great success, generating substantial net revenue. It continues be held annually by The Real Estate Council, with funds raised used to assist many worthy inner city programs.

The event has been and continues to be replicated by many other groups in several cities, including Atlanta, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, Austin, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Charlotte, New York and Orange County, California.
